As a follow-up to my 5-video series that I posted, this is the actual "longhand" typed version of everything that I spoke about in the videos. You can cut and paste and print this list off if it is helpful to you or take notes on what ideas and suggestions that you liked and pack your own bag accordingly. Hope this helps! :)
Items that I will bring along to the hospital that don't necessarily fit in my actual hospital bag:
- Boppy pillow
- Regular bed pillow w/contrasting pillow case (so it doesn't get mixed up w/the pillows at the hospital)
- A favorite lounge blanket or throw blanket
- A long warm fleece bathrobe
- Medela electric breastpump and accessories
- Laptop and charger
- Scrubs for Gregg and Vanessa
- Snacks (nuts, trail mix, protein/snack bars)
Actual loose items that will go into my hospital bag:
- 2 dark colored washcloths and 2 dark colored hand towels
- 1 hospital gown
- 1 long nightshirt/night gown or 1 pair of dark colored or multiprint patterned pj's/preferably older pj's and in a nursing style (to help camoflage possible stains that could occur from postpartum bleeding)
- 1 pair of non-skid slippers
- 1 pair of warm fuzzy fleece socks w/non-skid bottoms (keep in mind that hospital floors are very slippery and you don't want to take a chance on slipping or falling when getting out of bed)
- 1 going home outfit: stretchy loose pants and a long sleeved shirt
- 1-2 nursing bras or nursing tops
- 2-4 pairs of "junk" panties or your "aunt flo" panties
- 1 mirror
- 1 deck of playing cards/magazines
- camera and charger
- charger for my cell phone
- mp3 player, charger, headphones
- thank you cards and pens
- planner
- 1 zippie bag of flavored teas caffeine free (peppermint and chamomile) It is recommended that you drink some warm/hot liquids to get your digestive tract moving around since you will not be allowed to eat until you pass gas so teas will help it along!
- 1 zippie bag of cough drops/lozenges/sugar-free hard candies
- 1 coinpurse of quarters for the vending machine and parking meter (if needed)
- Paper copies of my birthing plan, hospital registration/admissions documents
- Photo ID, driver's license and info about my pediatrician, ob/gyn and any other pertinent medical history/info
Toiletry Bags that I will pack in my hospital bag:
1 Bathroom Toiletry Bag comprised of travel sized products:
- 1 shower gel
- Wen cleansing shampoo conditioner
- 1 bath scrubby
- 1 body lotion
- 1 cetaphil facial cleanser
- 1 packet of makeup remover wipes
- 1 packet of q-tips
- 1 mini deodorant
- 1 facial moisturizer
- 1 headband
- (outside of the bathroom toiletry bag but will be used in the bathroom, I will always bring Tucks medicated cooling pads,flushable toilet wipes, and a hairbrush)
1 Miscellaneous Toiletry Bag comprised of travel sized products:
- 1 mini packet of tissues
- 1 mini hand sanitizer
- 1 hairspray
- 1 bath and bodyworks body spray in coconut mango
- 1 makeup remover spray
- 1 pure cocoa butter stick
- 1 Wen hairstyling cream
- 1 mini zippie bag within the bag: hairties, hair clip, carmex lip balm, melagel antibiotic ointment and cotton rounds)
1 Dental Care Bag:
- 1 toothbrush
- 1 tongue scraper
- 1 floss
- 1 mini mouthwash
- 1 mini toothpaste
- 1 headband
1 Make-up/Cosmetics Bag:
- 1 foundation
- 1 eyeliner
- 1 blush
- 1 eyebrow powder
- 1 face powder
- 1 bronzer
- Makeup brushes
- 1 mascara
- 1 lipgloss
- 1lip pencil
1 breastfeeding accessories kit:
- 2 soothing gel pads
- 1 dozen disposable nursing pads
- 1 tube of lanolin cream
Additionally I will also be packing a diaper bag as well and will do a separate video and written list of what I will include in that as well.
